Spring is a wonderful time of year, full of new beginnings and fresh opportunities for learning. For multilingual learners, especially newcomers, it’s the perfect season to introduce vocabulary, engage in hands-on activities, and explore seasonal changes through interactive lessons. Our Spring Activities for Newcomers resource provides a variety of engaging activities that help students build language skills in a meaningful way.

What’s Included?

I've created a set of spring-themed activities to support language development and make learning fun. Here’s a look at what’s inside:

  • 18 Vocabulary Cards with Pictures and Words – Students can match words with images, reinforcing their understanding of essential spring-related terms. The cards can be used to play memory, and charades, match the picture cards to the word

  • Category Headings for Sorting Vocabulary Cards – Learners can categorize the vocabulary cards included in this resource based on themes such as weather, clothing, and nature.

  • Word Cards for Sentence Building – These word cards allow students to create their own sentences using the vocabulary cards described previously.

  • All About Spring Writing – With sentence stems and word banks, students can write about spring in a structured and supportive way.

  • Spring or Not Spring Clothing and Weather Sort – This activity helps students identify spring weather and clothing. Learners will determine which images and words belong to spring and which do not, strengthening their seasonal vocabulary.

  • Comparing Seasons – Students compare and contrast spring with another season to deepen their understanding of seasonal changes.

  • Act and Speak – This activity involves filling out a short conversation script and acting it out with a partner, promoting speaking and listening skills.

  • Comic Strip Conversation – Students create their own comic strip conversations, practicing dialogue and storytelling.

  • Mini-Book Template – A creative way for students to write and illustrate their own spring-themed stories.

Why These Activities Matter

Newcomers benefit from structured yet interactive activities that provide multiple opportunities to practice language in context. Visual supports, hands-on experiences, and collaborative learning make these activities both accessible and engaging.

By incorporating these resources into your classroom, you’ll create an environment where students can thrive while learning about spring!
